Méru, Capital of the Mother-of-Pearl

Musée de France In Méru, in l’Oise, there is a centuries old tradition of working with mother-of-pearl in marquetry. This trade, dating from the 13th century, consists of manufacturing small objects such as dominoes, dice, fans, knife-handles… Using semi-precious materials such as mother-of-pearl, shell, horn, tortoiseshell, ivory, bone and exotic woods. The Mother-of-pearl Marquetry Museum has some veritable treasures for you to see.
